After A Chin Augmentation, Your Cosmetic Surgeon Will Give You Care Instructions

The chin will usually be taped after the procedure in order to minimize any discomfort and swelling. Sutures that were placed in the skin will be removed after five to seven days. If the plastic surgeon chose for you to have an intra-oral incision, the sutures will dissolve in time. While you recover from cosmetic chin surgery you will experience some mild discomfort and swelling in the affected area for several days after the surgery. It's typically that you will experience some temporary difficulty with talking and smiling. Blue and black marks can be visible around the neck and chin in some cases. Your cosmetic surgeon will provide you with instructions about your dental hygiene, eating, and any other restrictions to your activities after the procedure.

Cosmetic Surgeons Use Cheek And Chin Implants To Create A Greater Balance To A Person's Face

The inserting of a chin implant into a person's chin may take between thirty minutes to an hour. During this surgery, the plastic surgeon will select the proper shape and size of implant to properly enhance your appearance. He or she will then proceed to insert the implant into a pocket that has been created over the front of the jawbone. The small incision that is used to create the pocket and to insert the facial implant is typically placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under a person's chin area.

Your Plastic Surgeon Will Describe Mentoplasty With Precise Detail

Your cosmetic surgeon will be able to weigh other factors that are able to influence the outcome of the procedure such as skin type, age, and attitudes toward surgery. The mentoplasty will be described in exact details along with reasonable projections for the outcome. If you choose to have the procedure performed, your surgeon will describe several things. These include the technique he or she will use, the type of anesthesia to be administered, where the procedure will be performed, any additional surgery to be performed, and the costs and risks.

Choosing A Qualified Facial Cosmetic Surgeon To Perform Your Mentoplasty Is Important

Whether your interest in chin augmentation is due to cosmetic or functional reasons, the choice of a qualified facial cosmetic surgeon is very important. During the consultation with your plastic surgeon, he or she will thoroughly examine the size and shape of your chin. This is performed so that the surgeon can find the specific problems associated with your chin. In some cases, the cosmetic surgeon will suggest that chin surgery may be used as a supplement to a nose job because a small chin is capable of making a person's nose appear larger.

To Create Facial Balance Plastic Surgeons Provide Chin Surgery

A chin that is well defined will help give balance to a person's face and will also create a major part of a person's profile. When a person looks in the mirror, they will usually focus on the shape and size of their nose, sagging jowls, ears, or even the wrinkles in their skin. But even if few people examine their chins, having what people would think of as a "weak chin" is definitely not an asset. Plastic surgeons who specialize in surgeries such as rhinoplasty are often the first person to suggest a change to your chin shape or size with chin implants that will enhance a profile as much as a nose job.

Chin Augmenation Can Help You Achieve Facial Balance

If you consider your chin small, you may benefit from surgery. Having a larger (or "stronger") chin can help balance one's appearance, creating equal weight in the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the face. It can offset the prominence of a large or even medium-sized nose. Enlarging the chin can also make the neck look longer and more graceful, and this can be a helpful addition to a facelift when there is blunting of the angle between lower neck and the under-chin region.

Create Better Harmony Between The Chin And Other Facial Features With Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation (Genioplasty or Mentoplasty) can strengthen the appearance of a receding chin by increasing its projection. Simultaneously, it can create better harmony between the chin and other facial features for a more balanced profile. Chin augmentation does not affect your bite or jaw function.

There are two techniques for adding prominence and contour to your chin. One, performed through an incision inside the mouth, involves moving the chin bone. The other approach involves inserting an implant. The incision to insert this implant may be made in the mouth or on the underside of the chin, in the latter case, surgery will usually leave a negligible scar. To permit proper healing following chin augmentation, you may be placed on a liquid diet for a day or two. The area may be taped or bandaged.

Similarly, in some cases the cheekbones may be built up (augmented) by placing an implant over them. This is usually performed through an incision within the mouth, but it may be done through a lower eyelid or brow lift incision.

After a chin or cheek augmentation, you will most likely be up and about the same day as surgery and back to work within a week.

Chin Implants Improve Underlying Structure

Bone structure is essential to an important part of an attractive, balanced face. Chin implants can improve this underlying structure, and better balance the facial features for a dramatically more attractive look. This operation is often performed at the time of rhinoplasty to help to balance the facial proportions. It may be combined with facelift, liposuction or other facial implants as well.

A Weak Chin Can Make A Nose Appear Larger

Chin augmentation is a way to bring balance to the facial structure of correcting a weak chin due to the related bone resorption or facial trauma. This procedure can be as simple as tissue augmentation filler to implanting a silicone or porex chin implant to have to cover all the ways you are able to enhance your chin. A weak chin can also make a normal nose appear large and an already pronounced larger. It may also give the appearance of a fleshy neck. This also brings a balanced relationship within the structure of the face. You can consult a surgeon who will be able to give you full advice which might prove useful to you.

Chin Augmentation Improves Your Facial Profile

A chin implant is intended to give the patient an improved profile, as well as a more attractive jaw line that creates a better balance between the chin and other facial features. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. An incision is made inside the lower lip or under the chin, and an implant is placed. In an alternative method called sliding osteotomy, a portion of the chin bone is permanently moved forward. The patient goes home with a small pressure dressing over the chin. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Swelling, tenderness, and possible local numbness gradually subside within a month or two.

Facial Implants Are Used to Improve Balance In Facial Features

Facial implants are used to improve balance in facial features. The implants are specifically designed for cheek and chin augmentation. There are many types and shapes of implants available from different manufacturers using a variety of materials. Materials commonly used are Silastic and Gortex.

Implantation of a chin implant takes place through an incision approximately 3/4 inch long on the under side of the chin. A pocket will be created over the bone for the implant. The appropriate sized chin implant is then placed inside the pocket. Once the implant is in position, the skin will be closed with sutures. Typically there is some bruising and swelling around the chin area for a week to ten days following this procedure.

Implantation of cheek implants takes place through an incision inside the mouth just above the front teeth, creating a pocket, under the upper lip. The appropriate sized cheek implants are then placed inside each pocket. Once they are positioned, the skin will be closed with dissolvable sutures, which will fall out in five to six days. After the cheek implants are in place, it is rare to have them migrate or move. Swelling in the cheeks lasts from two to three weeks; however, some mild residual swelling can occur up to two to three months after the surgery.

San Diego Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation (or chin implant) involves the placement of a small implant to enlarge and/or refine the shape of the chin and jawline. Since we can rarely see what we look like in profile, many people come to see me for consultation after they see a picture of themselves in profile. Most of these patients simply never realized that their chin was too small or that it was undermining their facial balance.

Proper balance of the face involves many factors, but the primary factors are the projection and relationship of the nose and chin. Oftentimes patients feel that their nose is too prominent, when in reality their chin simply does not project enough to balance the nose.

Achieve a Proportionate Facial Structure with Chin Augmentation

Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. Many times a plastic surgeon may recommend chin surgery to a patient having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. Chin surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.

I was unaware how important a chin is to the balance of one's face. Has anyone ever thought about having this surgery?
