Cheek Implants Can Achieve An Ideal Cheek Structure For Each Gender

Cheek augmentation can be performed using cheek implants. According to a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Francis Palmer, this will enhance the beauty of the face. Cheek implants are a way to improve your face and achieve the ideal aesthetic cheek shape. Cheek implants come in many sizes and shapes, but obviously there must be an ideal size and shape for each individual patient to see the most aesthetic improvement from their cheek implants. There are several types of cheek implant material and between forty and sixty possible shapes and sizes of cheek implants available. This can lead to a great deal of confusion when people are trying to decide on what cheek implant to receive. Cheek augmentation is important to beauty because cheeks have the ability to make the face appear female, male, old, young, attractive, or less so.

Inadequate Cheek Volume Can Be Filled By Cosmetic Surgeons With Cheek Augmentation

Plastic surgeons have outlined the important beauty differences as a means to quantify, identify, and evaluate the cheeks for a cheek augmentation using cheek implants. If a plastic surgeon were to use the incorrect shape or size of cheek implant, it may lead to a gender non-specific alteration of a person's face. Simply put, the cheek implants could make a male's face appear more feminine and vice-versa. According to Dr Francis Palmer, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, the cheeks should be augmented with cheek implants only when the ideal cheek shape isn't present and the individual is over the age of 18. Many plastic surgeons even prefer to wait until a patient has lost all of their "baby fat" in their 20's. And some plastic surgeons believe that other methods such as facial liposculpting may be used to further accentuate the cheek area prior to this time.

Facial Implants Are Used to Improve Balance In Facial Features

Facial implants are used to improve balance in facial features. The implants are specifically designed for cheek and chin augmentation. There are many types and shapes of implants available from different manufacturers using a variety of materials. Materials commonly used are Silastic and Gortex.

Implantation of a chin implant takes place through an incision approximately 3/4 inch long on the under side of the chin. A pocket will be created over the bone for the implant. The appropriate sized chin implant is then placed inside the pocket. Once the implant is in position, the skin will be closed with sutures. Typically there is some bruising and swelling around the chin area for a week to ten days following this procedure.

Implantation of cheek implants takes place through an incision inside the mouth just above the front teeth, creating a pocket, under the upper lip. The appropriate sized cheek implants are then placed inside each pocket. Once they are positioned, the skin will be closed with dissolvable sutures, which will fall out in five to six days. After the cheek implants are in place, it is rare to have them migrate or move. Swelling in the cheeks lasts from two to three weeks; however, some mild residual swelling can occur up to two to three months after the surgery.

Cheek and Chin Implants Modify the Underlying Structure of the Face

Cheek implants (malar augmentation) and chin implants (mentoplasty) modify the underlying structure of the face to produce a pleasing combination of facial elements. Using components of classic beauty, in this case prominent cheekbones and a strong chin projection, your board certified plastic surgeon will create a countenance of balance and distinction.
The proportioning qualities of these procedures can benefit patients in many ways. Both can enhance a facelift, correct asymmetries and congenital defects, cheek implants can recontour sagging mid-facial tissues, and a chin implant can shorten the perceived length of the nose.
