Eyelid Lift Surgery Will Involve The Lower Eyelids, Upper Eyelids, Or Both

The process of aging will likely cause unwanted changes to a person's expressions, causing them to look permanently fatigued or even older than they really are. These appearance changes will likely cause some emotional distress and sometimes even a vision impairment. A blepharoplasty is created to restore a much more youthful appearance to a person's eyes. This cosmetic eyelid surgery may involve either the lower or upper eyelids or sometimes both.

The Aging Process Can Cause Unwanted Changes In Your Expression That A Plastic Surgeon Can Fix With An Eyelid Lift

A blepharoplasty (eye surgery), more commonly referred to as an eyelid lift, focuses on the eyes. The eyes occupy an extremely prominent part of the facial features that a person has. However, it is the skin surrounding the eyes, rather than the eyes themselves, that convey emotions. The muscle, fat, tissue, hair, and lashes all contribute to a very wide array of expressions. Sun exposure, heredity, and age are all factors that contribute to deep fine lines, wrinkles, and puffiness around the eyes.

Bay Area Plastic Surgeon

Blepharoplasty San Francisco - Time is a two-faced creature. On the one hand are the things that can't happen soon enough, like Christmas, the movie you've been waiting for since the day you picked up the book, getting a promotion Bay Area Plastic Surgeon you've been working for, and so forth. On the other hand is the price we pay for our patience; our skin loses its elasticity and body parts start unauthorized migration. It doesn't take much to make an otherwise young face look old and tired. A little sagging above, a little baggage below, maybe some wrinkles for good measure, and 'Poof!' Old.

While there's no way to truly avoid the price of accumulating birthdays, it's surprising how simple it can be to get an extension. Because so much of the face's appearance hangs on subtle details, eyelid lift surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a relatively minor procedure that can have a major impact. Bay area plastic surgeons, Stanley G. Poulos, M.D. and Yngvar Hvistendahl, M.D., provide this and other cosmetic services.

Deciding Whether Or Not To Get Blepharoplasty

When considering Blepharoplasty, there are a few questions you should ask yourself. Do you look angry or upset because of how puffy your eyelids are, or how your eyelids droop? Do you look tired when you are really fully rested? For a while I was asking myself these same questions and often thought about if it would be worth it for me to get a blepharoplasty surgery done. Before I could decide if I wanted to have it done or not I decided to search the internet for more information on this procedure so I could be more sure that this was what I wanted.

While searching the internet I found a website called zahircosmetics.com and on that site I learned how "As we age, our eyelids stretch, muscles weaken and fat accumulates, all of which can lead to "a tired look" around the eyes. Eyelid surgery treats both the loose skin and fat below the eyes, commonly called "bags."

After reading more about this procedure I was very confident that this was what I wanted to have done, and I am very excited to see the results.

Eyelid Lift in Salt Lake City

A procedure on the upper and lower eyelids to remove excess skin and fat, the goal of blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift surgery, is to restore a more youthful appearance to the face. Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgeries, and the results can be long-lived.

I was looking up information about having an eyelid lift in Salt Lake City, Utah, and found Doctor Louis Morales. The eyes are one of the first places we start to show our age, and it's interesting to see the difference such a small correction can make in a face. In cases where the upper eyelid has grown particularly baggy, it can droop right over the eye and obscure vision, and blepharoplasty can solve that as well.

Choosing Your Eyelid Lift Surgeon in Idaho

When finding a surgeon to perform your eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) there are a great many factors to consider, but along with board certification and experience, don't forget old fashioned patient care. The choice to have blepharoplasty can be very personal, and is not a small decision. A doctor whose goals are oriented on you as a person and on helping you meet your own goals is a doctor to be sought after.

I was reading on the web site of Sorensen & Bass, a cosmetic surgery center in Boise, ID, and saw on the home page "...our consultations are lengthy by nature based on a philosophy that an educated patient will make better and safer decisions for themselves." Choosing the solutions that will work best should be a team effort between you and a conscientious doctor.

Blepharoplasty: The Surgery

Typically the incisions follow the natural lines of your eyelids; in the creases of your upper lids, and just below the lashes in the lower lids. The eyelid surgery incisions may extend into the crow's feet or laugh lines at the outer corners of your eyes. Working through these incisions, the surgeon separates the skin from underlying fatty tissue and muscle, removes excess fat, and often trims sagging skin and muscle. The incisions are then closed with very fine sutures.

Minimize The Visible Effects Of Aging With Eyelid Surgery

If you're considering a forehead lift, this brochure will provide a basic understanding of the procedure -- when it can help, how it's performed and what results you can expect. It won't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Be sure to ask your doctor if there is anything you don't understand about the procedure.

A forehead lift is most commonly performed in the 40-60 age range to minimize the visible effects of aging. However, it can also help people of any age who have developed furrows or frown lines due to stress or muscle activity. Individuals with inherited conditions, such as a low, heavy brow or furrowed lines above the nose can achieve a more alert and refreshed look with this procedure.

Forehead lift is often performed in conjunction with a facelift to provide a smoother overall look to the face. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may also be performed at the same time as a forehead lift, especially if a patient has significant skin overhang in the upper eyelids. Sometimes, patients who believe they need upper-eyelid surgery find that a forehead lift better meets their surgical goals.

Patients who are bald, who have a receding hairline, or who have had previous upper-eyelid surgery may still be good candidates for forehead lift. The surgeon will simply alter the incision location or perform a more conservative operation.

Remember, a forehead lift can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them in detail with your doctor.

Do You Appear More Tired Than You Feel?

Oftentimes patients complain that they appear more tired than they feel. Sometimes fat is repositioned from the lower eyelid into the deep tear troughs or the deep depressions that exist at the bottom of the lower eyelids. The incisions are easily hidden below the eyelashes of the lower eyelids and sometimes performed with no incision on the lower eyelid whatsoever, called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The upper eyelid incision is hidden very well back within the deep crease that is seen when the eye is shut, but retracts back when the eyelid is open. Many times eyelid surgery is performed at the same time as a face lift or a brow lift.

Two Approaches to Blepharoplasty

Traditional Blepharoplasty: An incision is made in the crease of the upper lid toward the temples. Once healed, it is not noticeable when the eye is open. On the lower lid, the incision is made along the lash line toward the temples, and is hidden by lashes when healed.
The Transconjunctival Approach: This is a newer technique for blepharoplasty, involving an incision inside the lower lid. Fat can be removed through this incision, but excess skin cannot be eliminated.

Correct the Appearance of Droopy Upper Eyelids with Blepharoplasty

The first signs of aging to appear in the mid to late 30's are almost always related to the eyes. Furthermore, psychological studies show that 50 percent of our initial impression of a person is made on the basis of the appearance of the eyes. The eyes tell others if we are sad, happy, angry or tired. Blepharoplasty corrects the appearance of droopy upper eyelids and puffy bags of the lower eyelids, and it produces dramatic and predictable results. It is very common to hear family and friends of eyelid surgery patients compliment them that they look more rested and relaxed. Quite often, even these close acquaintances do not realize that surgery was performed. The recovery is very rapid and you can resume a normal routine in one to two days. The sutures come out in four days, and makeup can be resumed on day five.

Remove Wrinkles And Bags Under The Eyes With Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery is a simple procedure that produces dramatic results. It removes wrinkles and bags under the eyes, and reduces hooding and excess skin by taking weight off the upper lid. During the procedure excess skin is excised and fat is repositioned to decrease puffiness. Incisions are completely hidden and placed so they will not change the overall shape of your eyes.

Doctors often combine eyelid surgery with a brow lift. This allows less skin to be removed from the eyelid and leaves a more natural look. A chemical peel done several days after the procedure may reduce fine wrinkles of the skin.

Produce a Significant Improvement in Eyelid Appearance with Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty creates an open, larger, brighter appearing eye. By removing excess loose skin and fatty tissue which produce bags of the upper or lower lid, the eye appears larger, less tired, more open and brighter.

In women, excess loose tissue prevents optimal use of makeup and obscures the normal contours of the eyelid. In both women and men, loose, sagging, bulging tissues make the eye appear smaller and more tired or stressed.

The goal of eyelid surgery is to produce a significant improvement in eyelid appearance with the utmost safety.

Your eyelid surgery may be performed in a hospital, free-standing ambulatory facility or office-based surgical suite. Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. Frequently, local anesthesia and intravenous sedation are used for patients undergoing eyelid surgery, although general anesthesia may be desirable in some instances. For your safety during the operation, various monitors are used to check your heart, blood pressure, pulse and the amount of oxygen circulating in your blood.

Remove excess fat behind your eyelids with a Blepharoplasty

There are essentially two major problems that affect the eyelids. One is the build up of excess fat behind the eyelids, especially in the lower eyelids. This pushes outward on the eyelid causing a bulge or “bag” to develop. Light, which most often comes from above us, will shine on the bulge and cause a shadow to form under the lid. This gives the appearance of dark circles and the tired-look.

The second major problem affecting eyelids is wrinkling of the skin. This is due to a loss of the skin’s natural elastic properties, which can be as a result of the aging process, sun damage and cigarette smoking. The excess skin can become redundant and hang down, especially on the upper lids, adding to that tired or aged appearance. Excessive drooping of the upper eyelids can even obstruct vision.

Surgical treatment, called a Blepharoplasty, is directed at each of these problems.

Achieve a Rested, Peaceful Look with Blepharoplasty

The blepharoplasty operation is designed to improve your appearance as much as possible. One must accept the judgment of your surgeon and realize that he or she will remove all the excess tissue to effect the optimum result for each patient. If a patient has very droopy brows, it may be impossible to obtain a significant improvement of upper eyelid appearance without first raising the brows. The blepharoplasty (without a browlift) does not affect droopy eyebrows. Your surgeon may suggest a browlift with you if he or she feels that your most significant problem is brow drooping.

Upper Eyelid Surgery Differs From Lower

For the upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made along the natural fold of the eyelid, extending from corner to corner, and excess fat and skin is removed. For the lower lids, the incision may be made right below the lower lash line and excess skin, fat and muscle removed. The underlying muscles may also be tightened by your plastic surgeon.

Eyelid Surgery can Make you Look Years Younger

Eyelid surgery can make you look years younger and change one's appearance from a tired, sad and angry look to an alert, rested and peaceful look. The eyelid lift operation is designed to remove excess skin and bagginess around the eye area. The wrinkles around the eyes are etched into the skin and cannot be removed by this procedure. A laser resurfacing procedure may be desired if the patient would like to decrease fine line wrinkles.

The Risks Following Blepharoplasty

When cosmetic eyelid surgery is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor. But you should always expect risks and discuss with your eyelid surgery plastic surgeon about the pros and cons involved.

1. The minor complications after the surgery include double or blurred vision for a few days.
2. Temporary swelling at the corner of the eyelids.
3. A slight asymmetry in healing or scarring.
4. Tiny whiteheads may appear after your stitches are taken out, which can be removed easily with a very fine needle.
5. Another complication is ectropion, a pulling down of the lower eyelid which requires further surgery.

Eyelid Surgery Helps Rid the Feeling of Looking Older

Cosmetic eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is done to improve the appearance of the upper or lower eyelids. The primary goal of upper eyelid surgery is to remove the excess skin and fat, whereas the goal of lower eyelid surgery is to remove mostly excess fat. The fat in the lower eyelids is a genetic trait and is referred to by many as puffiness. Typically, patients will say that they look older than they feel when they look in the mirror.

Blepharoplasty Can Correct Drooping Upper Eyelids

Eyelid surgery (technically called blepharoplasty) is a procedure to remove fat--usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. However, it won't remove crow's feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or browlift.

The Aging Process can Cause Unwanted Changes in Expression

An eyelid lift (eye surgery) otherwise known as blepharoplasty, focuses on the eyes, which occupy a very prominent part of our facial features. It is the surrounding skin, rather than the eyes themselves, that conveys emotion. The tissue, muscle, fat, hair and lashes all contribute to the wide array of expressions. Age, sun exposure and hereditary factors all contribute to wrinkles, deep lines and puffiness around the eyes.
The aging process can cause unwanted changes in expression, causing us to look permanently fatigued and older than we really are. These changes in appearance can cause emotional distress and sometimes even visual impairment. An eyelid lift is designed to restore a more youthful appearance to your eyes. It may involve the upper lids, the lower lids, or both.

Asian Eyelid Surgery

The exotic look of a surgically revised asian eye has been perfected by some plastic surgeons. The procedure involves creating a pleasing double fold above the single eyelid. This procedure widens the eye into a beautifully shaped almond. Fine sutures leave no significant evidence of surgery.
I had no idea they had a completely different surgery for Asian eyelids. I wonder if it is more difficult than American eyelids. Has anyone had an experience with this that they would like to share?

The Best Candidates for Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

The best candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most are 35 or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.

A few medical conditions make blepharoplasty more risky. They include thyroid problems such as hypothyroidism and Graves' disease, dry eye or lack of sufficient tears, high blood pressure or other circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. A detached retina or glaucoma is also reason for caution; check with your ophthalmologist before you have surgery.

Blepharoplasty, also called an eyelid lift, is the most common facial plastic procedure performed at the Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center Of San Diego. The first signs of aging to appear in the mid to late 30's are almost always related to the eyes. Furthermore, psychological studies show that 50 percent of our initial impression of a person is made on the basis of the appearance of the eyes.

Drastically Reduce the Signs of Aging

Eyelid surgery is a procedure to correct drooping of the upper eyelids and puffy bags and wrinkles around the lower eyelids. With age, the muscles around the eyes weaken and the skin becomes increasingly loose and puffy, which can cause patients to look older and more tired than they actually feel. Eyelid surgery helps restore a youthful appearance by removing or redraping excess fat, muscle and skin from the upper and lower eyelids. Either alone or combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures, eyelid surgery can drastically reduce the signs of aging.

Major Problems that Affect the Eyelids and a Solution, Blepharoplasty

A Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon has been a pioneer in developing a remarkable method of Blepharoplasty, which employs the use of the laser. This ultra skilled approach represents a blend of the highest level of safety with the best aesthetic results.

A Look At Beverly Hills Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty - Houston, Texas

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty creates an open, larger, brighter appearing eye. By removing excess loose skin and fatty tissue which produce bags of the upper or lower lid, the eye appears larger, less tired, more open and brighter.

In women, excess loose tissue prevents optimal use of makeup and obscures the normal contours of the eyelid. In both women and men, loose, sagging, bulging tissues make the eye appear smaller and more tired or stressed.

The goal of eyelid surgery is to produce a significant improvement in eyelid appearance with the utmost safety.

Risks
Risks of injury to the eye, infection or bleeding which could impair vision are extremely small, but do exist and must be considered.

Other risks common to all surgical procedures such as bleeding, infection and scar tissue formation occur in a very small percentage of cases. We will give you more detailed information about these and other rare risks in our written information, and encourage you to discuss any which concern you during your consultation.
